Feels Like Fall - School Begins

August 28, 2011

It feels like Fall here in Fairbanks, Alaska and school has begun. John-John started public school at West Valley High School, after homeschooling for all of middle school. He seems to be enjoying and adjusting well to this transition. We miss him at home, but we are excited for him to do what he feels he wants to do with his education. He hopes to play hockey for West Valley and that was a big factor in his decision to attend.

Jessica and Jack did a Five In A Row book for this first week. We are very laid back and just have fun with the book and all it has to teach us. It has been raining so much this summer, so we started out with STORM IN THE NIGHT - by MARY STOLTZ. We have been talking about the clouds and storms and enjoying PAT CUMMINGS unique illistrations.

We began by making rain guages out of soda bottles. Jessica and Jack have a Rainfall Recording Page in their STORM IN THE NIGHT books that were made with blank books purchased from http://www.barebooks.com/

The rain is coming down!!

While learning the names of different types of clouds we stopped to make a Jell-O Sky snack.
